Vitamin D is a fat-soluble secosteroid that increases the intestinal absorption of calcium, magnesium and phosphate needed by our body. It is a group vitamin responsible for many other biological effects in the body.
The most important compounds in the human body in this group are Vitamin D2 and Vitamin D3. In medical science, vitamin D2 is known as ergocalciferol and D3 is cholecalciferol.
The main natural source of vitamins is the synthesis of cholecalciferol in the lower layers of the epidermis of the skin through chemical reactions.
Vitamin D is produced when the sun’s ultraviolet rays are triggered on our skin. However, exposure to the sun and vitamin D derived from natural foods remain biologically inert. And in order to activate it, two hydrocollications must take place in our body.
The first hydrocolliculation occurs in the liver and converts vitamin D to 25-hydroxyvitamin D or OHD. And it is also known as calcidil in medical science. The second hydrocolliculation occurs primarily in the kidneys. And it physically makes up 1,25 dihydroxyvitamin D or OH-2D. It is also known as calcitriol.
Why do you need vitamin D?
- Vitamin D is needed to absorb calcium from food. Without vitamin D in the body, the body’s natural system cannot absorb calcium from food. As a result, lack of calcium will create various problems.
- Vitamin D is needed to make enough phosphorus for the body.
- Children need vitamin D to grow bones and make bones strong and strong. Children’s bones become rickettsial due to vitamin D deficiency, they may not be strong. And in adults there is osteomalacia which destroys the shape of the bones.
